 Liza DiSavino
The national folk music magazine Dirty Linen has said, “It’s because of performers like Liza DiSavino that folk music is flourishing…Her songs are memorable, meaningful, and welcoming.” Liza’s songs draw upon an eclectic mix of musical styles, wry humor, and cleanly delivered story lines. Her album of original music, A Single Hope, garnered praise from California to Maine to Great Britain, and was feature on NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO. Liza was runner-up in the 2001 AMERICAN SONGWRITER'S COMPETION IN NASHVILLE, and was a winner at the FALCON RIDGE NEW FOLK SHOWCASE in New York. She is also editor of For the Beauty of the Earth, and environmental songbook to benefit HUDSON RIVER SLOOP CLEARWATER, and music editor of For Real: The songs of Bob Franke. A mainstay of the New Jersey music scene in all its guises, she was the founder and leader of the NEW JERSEY SONGWRITER'S CIRCLE for eight years. She is currently a member of the innovative folk band ILLEGAL CONTRABAND, the acoustic duo Liza and AJ, and the jazz band NORMANDY INVASION. In addition, Liza played French horn on several classical recordings by the nationally acclaimed chamber music group SOLID BRASS, and has played in orchestras on Broadway, in Carnegie Hall, and under the batons of ZUBIN MEHTA and LOREN MAEZEL. Liza can also be heard as a backup musician on folk albums by Steve Schuch, Dave Kleiner, Mike Agranoff, Fast Folk, Patrick Regan, and Ellen Stapenhost. Read some of Liza's thoughts . . .
